It wouldn’t be the holidays without seasonal decorations, extra candles around the house, and the delicious scent of home-cooked meals in the kitchen. Centauri knows how important it is to make the holidays special for your family and friends. But for us, it’s also a good time to remind everyone of some simple tips to make your holiday safe and enjoyable.
Decoration Safety Tips
Place your decorations and tree a safe distance from a heat source, including candles, fireplaces, radiators, heating vents, and lights.
Avoid placing your tree in front of an exit, so your family can exit the home safety.
When decorating your tree with electrical lights, make sure to use indoor lights that are not broken or too worn. Use a timer so the lights automatically turn off before you go to bed.
Candle Safety Tips
Keep lit candles away from decorations and other flammable materials.
Keep wicks cut low so the flame doesn’t reach maximum height.
Never leave an open flame unattended and ensure you completely put out the candle before leaving the room or going to bed.
Educate your children on the dangers of fire and how to practice fire safety.
Cooking Safety Tips
Do not leave cooking unattended. Check your food frequently and set a timer as a reminder.
Always keep a fire extinguisher nearby.
Exercise caution when handling hot liquids and foods, as steam or splashes can cause serious burns.
When it is time to set the table, place hot liquids and foods in the center of the table so it reduces the chance of being knocked over.
Replace your Fire Alarm Batteries
One of the most important seasonal safety tips is to ensure your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms are working properly. Test your alarms monthly and replace the batteries every six months or as needed.
We want you to have peace of mind during the holidays. Keep these seasonal safety tips in mind and have a wonderful holiday season.
