Centauri Insurance Sponsors Sarasota SUP & RUN 5K

4th Annual Race to Benefit Wounded Warriors Run by Centauri VP

800+ Athletes Turned Out to Run & Paddle for a Good Cause on May 19

Centauri Insurance has always been involved in races as many of our employees are avid runners, but the Sarasota SUP & RUN 5K is more than an ordinary race - it's a Centauri family affair.
In 2015, Centauri's Vice President of Sales & Agency Relations, Felicia Cox, was approached to organize a stand-up paddleboard (SUP) race to benefit Operation Second Chance, an organization that supports wounded veterans. Cox was not real familiar with Stand Up Paddleboard but she thought why not combine her love of running road races with a SUP race and the Sarasota SUP & RUN 5K was born. With just 218 athletes competing the first year, this little race is all grown up with more than 800 athletes turning out this year.
This unique race wouldn't be possible without its amazing community sponsors and volunteers. Each year a feature disabled veteran is selected and a custom paddleboard is made for them based on their individual needs. Generous local sponsors donate the funds to build the paddleboards. After this year's race, six beautiful custom boards were gifted to deserving veterans.
As title sponsor of the race, Centauri provides monetary assistance and covers race fees for all of our employees and family members who want to participate. Not only do Centauri employees compete, but they also volunteer. TEAM Centauri members lend their hand in marketing efforts, packet stuffing, photography, videography and assisting on race day.
ABOUT THE RACE

The 4th annual SUP & RUN 5K was held at Nathan Benderson Park on May 19, 2018. Each year, athletes choose from three great races:

  • 5K RUN

  • 5K Stand Up Paddle Board (SUP) OR

  • 5K SUP & 5K RUN

Athletes participating in the combination SUP & RUN run the 5K first and then hop on their paddle board for a 5K paddle around Nathan Benderson Park.  The SUP & RUN 5K draws top runners and SUP'ers who compete for cash prizes, but it's also a family-friendly event with not-so-serious athletes who come out to support this worthy cause.
